Gadaladeniya, Lanakatilaka and Embekke Temples | |||
Known
as the western shrines, these are located on the Kadugannawa, Peradeniya
road 16km west of Kandy. The first is built in stone and reflects south
Indian architectural influence. The second is in brick and the painted
doors and frescoes are remarkably still in good condition. The third is
famous for its carved wooden pillars and Embekke still remains a prominent
centre for wood carving. All three belong to the 14th century AD. |
